After three weeks of absolutely horrid service at every restaurant in Beaufort, we finally hit upon a place where our minimal expectations were exceeded. Really, we don't expect that much: water, drinks in a timely manner, no big gaps between each of the steps of a meal, don't ask us how the meal is 10 seconds after you place it in front of us, etc. Jose was our waiter for the evening. Great guy, great service. Just enough attention that you knew he was paying attention but not so much you felt intruded upon. The food itself was pretty good, too. I love the Tex-Mex variety and this fit the bill. Spicy salsa, good chips, really tasty margaritas go a long way for us in defining the quality of a mexican food restaurant. Agave delivered on all 3 counts. The fajitas were excellent as well. Thanks Jose!

I have been to Agave four times over the last several months. The first time I had shredded chicken enchiladas and was not very impressed. The second time was after reading Tricia W.'s mention of the Pork Tingas, and I have gotten that dish every time since. It is damn good. I took a friend from KC here and he declared it the best Mexican food he's had in the South. As others have said, the service is great and the chips and salsa are too. Beer drinker tip- Tecate 16-oz cans are $2.00.

Had dinner here twice while staying at the Port Royal Marina. Hubby got the Pork Tinga both times and it was really good. I had the Carnitas the first time and the Pork Fajitas the second. I guess we were in a "piggy mood" both visits. The food was really good and so were the chips and salsa. Service was fast both times and the food was good and hot. What more can you ask for... They had a pretty varied menu and would definitely go back if we come back through Port Royal again. Definitely worth a try~

Very fresh and high quality food. I had a shrimp taco which was OUTSTANDING with the crunchy slaw and slightly spicy chipotle crema. Wonderful. Also had the chicken tortilla soup which was very fresh and chock full of chicken and yumminess. Not to mention the super salsa. All around a great pick and so glad that we stopped in. As far as decor, lots of light, very clean and inviting. You won't be disappointed!!

Better than the average Mexican-American Restaurant. From the cool digs and colorful decor to the more unique and exciting menu. No Speedy Gonzalez here. Chips were decent and a spicier than usual salsa that accompanied. I had the Taco's a la carte and opted for one Fish and one Steak. Yummy. Beef was served on a corn tortilla while the fish on a flour. Will be back, since we were not all that impressed with the other Tex-Mex establishments in the area. SaleebScore: Food 8/10, Service: 8/10, Value: 10/10, Atmosphere: 8/10 ¡Si Señor! ... we will be back.

All three in our party were very satisfied with our meals. The food was fresh... I was very impressed with the white chicken meat loaded in my enchiladas. Sometimes the chicken at these places seems scrappy... Lots of cheese, great salsa and fast service. All thumbs up.

Food = 2 Price = 3 Experience = 2 (server was nice and fast... but, it makes no difference if the food is not good.)

I've had Mexican food in Texas, California, Arizona... this may be the best Mexican food I've ever had ... chile relleno, fajitas, and house specialty, Alhambre, all delicious. Service edgy starting out but greatly improved on recent visit.

They have the best service I have encountered in the South. All restaurant employees make customer service a priority and it definitely worked in their favor! Their margaritas are pretty good and their food is good too. Not amazing food, but good Mexican food for Beaufort. Been here twice. Got fajitas first time and they were delicious. Then got enchiladas verde and they were just good. Chicken was well marinated but too many huge chunks. Flan (Mexican custard dessert) was not up to par for me, but I have had some amazing flan.

Good food and good service. Only thing I see lacking is a manager roaming around to check on things like tables being cleared, reduced time in waiting for the bill and asking if we wanted desert. Our server was very good but lack the support of a team - I looked around the entire time I was there to see if a leader was present to keep the service flow going but none was to be found. This is a shame as it could be a 5 star operation.

A great addition to the Beaufort restaurant scene. We have been in the area now for 3 years and can say with certainty that this restaurant produces a quality product. We are from the Washington, DC area with a plethora of dining options so I come hungry and picky. Agave lived up to my expectations. The chips and salsa were hot and fresh. The taco platter was tasty. The fajitas were good. We haven't sampled the rest of the menu items yet, but based on our first experience, we will be going back! Hopefully we will see this place stay in business. My only reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it was our first experience and I can't speak for the entire menu yet!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
